WELCOME TO DTR CATTLE COMPANY! We are a family owned and operated Shorthorn cattle business built from generations of dedication to the Shorthorn breed. DTR was originally founded by the Grathwohl family of Kansas, who spent a lifetime dedicated to breeding outstanding Shorthorn cattle and serving the breed.

IN RECENT YEARS, DTR has continued their drive for excellence as Nancy, Becky and Andy have continued the family tradition started so many years ago. The DTR herd continues to focus on outstanding Shorthorn genetics by using proven AI sires, high quality donor females, and a keen eye for quality

NANCY’S FATHER, EDDIE GRATHWOHL, STARTED DEER TRAIL RANCH in 1978. Eddie’s father and grandfather raised commercial Shorthorns, but Eddie started his registered herd at the age of 12 as part of his 4-H beef project. Over the years, Eddie’s herd grew, and he started Deer Trail Ranch in 1978. (Named because of the large number of whitetail deer that wintered on their ranch near Powhattan, KS)

NANCY FORMED DTR CATTLE COMPANY in 2005 from heifers she had shown over the years and cow families that originated at Deer Trail Ranch. In 2008, Ryan and Nancy married and moved her cows to Ryan’s family’s land near Raymond, KS. Since then, they have concentrated on expanding their numbers and continuing to build on their foundation females. Ryan and Nancy have two children, Josie (5) and Ryder (3).
